Sigma Phi Epsilon, or SigEp, the nation's largest fraternity, is committed to the ancient Greek philosophy that encourages the pursuit of a balanced life; A Sound Mind in a Sound Body. We are proud to hold the highest GPA of any national fraternity, and prouder to be the ONLY national fraternity with a GPA above 3.0 (4.0 scale). However, SigEp's mission is to provide students the education and skills that aren't taught in the classroom. SigEps are students of life, learning how to live their best lives.
The Balanced Man Scholarship is one way that the MIT SigEp Chapter promotes the Balanced Man Ideal. The Balanced Man Scholarship enables MIT SigEp to recognize outstanding men and women who exemplify our philosophy by living balanced lives and striving for excellence in every endeavor amidst the very challenging MIT academic environment. The Scholarship also helps us identify potential SigEps. We find that qualified Balanced Man Scholarship applicants make great potential members because their personal ideals and aspirations are already congruent with SigEp’s. However, the Balanced Man Scholarship is awarded based on merit alone. Applicants need not join the MIT SigEp Chapter to win, and an applicant’s potential to join SigEp in no way affects their ability to win the scholarship.
The application is very straightforward, and preference in interview scheduling is given on a first come first serve basis. For more information about SigEp, look here. Please feel free to contact the BMS Committee with any questions about SigEp and/or the Balanced Man Scholarship
